It’s been almost two years since I left a big 4 accounting firm to focus full time on my "side hustle." There are moments I miss the environment, but what I learned with those teams, in that culture, and on those topics are with me everyday. In the moment, the change felt sudden; but I have realized a lot of what I'm doing day-to-day in my budding business is the same as it was before. I work with clients to take on big projects, dig into the details of small changes that really matter, and manage risks - only now we're tackling renovations instead of cloud deployments. (Do you know an HOA committee that needs to be managed like the board of a Fortune 100 company? I'm here for you.)
So, why, and how, the change?
I bought my first apartment in 2017. I spent hours with an IKEA catalogue learning about designing in small spaces. In 2020, my partner and I expanded our portfolio and have since taken on five renovations and countless maintenance and design projects to keep our units comfortable and profitable. We appreciated how challenging renovations - even the smaller ones - could be when you’re not in it every day; there’s rarely one decision maker, one way to do things, or even one contractor that does all the work. Seeing my friends and family go through the same challenges, I started offering to help and very rapidly expanded to helping outside clients.
Jeff and I call our portfolio “Pink Shores Properties,” so "PSP Design Co" was started to give homeowners, airbnb owners, HOAs - anyone who needs to get a design or construction project done - a partner. Since we've opened to clients, we've taken on so many new challenges (making a few mistakes along the way!), created beautiful spaces that make people happy, and helped numerous clients be comfortable and confident as they take on changes to their most sacred spaces. From color palettes to furniture selections to getting input on construction quotes from our network, it's undeniable that our role makes what can be an otherwise stressful process, easier.
I'm excited to be on this path - even if I don't know where it exactly leads - and am thankful to all the previous steps, teammates, and mentors and sponsors that brought me here. I can't wait to keep you updated, and of course, if there's a project you need some support on, please don't hesitate to reach out.
